Effects of salbutamol on the inflammatory parameters and angiogenesis in the rat air pouch model of inflammation

Abstract: In the present study, effects of salbutamol on the inflammatory parameters, angiogenesis, interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels were investigated in an air pouch model of inflammation. Inflammation was induced by intrapouch administration of 1% solution of sterile carrageenan in male Wistar rats. Salbutamol (125, 250 and 500 µg/rat) and salbutamol (500 µg/rat) plus propranolol (100 μg/rat) were injected intrapouch. After 6 and 72 h, fluid inside the pouches was collect… Show more

“…Considering the effect in the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines under salbutamol treatment, the administration of this β-2 adrenergic agonists could be important to potentialize the effect of antibiotics in the treatment of sepsis increasing the prognostic of disease [33]. Salbumatol also reduced the IL-1β production and other pro-inflammatory cytokines in other tissue [34]. Thus, the present findings open avenues to new treatments for this devastating condition.…”

“…The public health and economic impacts of harmful algal blooms (HABs) in the coastal ocean have increased in frequency, intensity, and distribution in recent years (Hallegraeff, 2004;Heisler et al, 2008), and it is now accepted that "global expansion" of HAB phenomena is real (e.g., Smayda, 1990;Anderson et al, 2012). In British Columbia (BC), HABs regularly cause severe economic losses through finfish/shellfish mortalities and shellfish harvest closures due to toxin accumulation, gill damage, or hypoxia (Horner et al, 1997;Whyte et al, 1997;Taylor and Harrison, 2002;Rensel and Whyte, 2004;Esenkulova, 2011, 2014;Bates et al, 2020).…”

“…Further, H. akashiwo blooms may adversely affect herring and wild salmon survival (Rensel, 2007;Rensel et al, 2010). Chaetoceros convolutus and C. concavicornis are known to kill fish as a result of gill damage (Albright et al, 1993;Taylor and Harrison, 2002;Hallegraeff et al, 2004) and have caused fish losses in coastal BC (Albright et al, 1993;. Rhizosolenia setigera is a nontoxic diatom with long, needle-like spikes, and generally, is not considered harmful (Moestrup et al, 2008).…”

“…The aim of our survey was to evaluate the TSH effects on the HUVEC as assignee of vascular endothelial cells to evaluate whether change in TSH level could affect the endothelial function or not. Indeed, we investigated the possible effects of TSH on the endothelial dysfunction which, these TSH effects and also altered levels of ICAM-1, E-selectin, and VEGF (that have major roles in endothelial function)(17)might be the essential factors in atherosclerosis progression.…”
