Effects of Nanodiamonds of Explosive Synthesis on the Skin of Experimental Animals Locally Exposed to Cobalt and Chrome Ions

Abstract: Experiments in vivo demonstrated the protective effect of modified nanodiamonds on guinea pig skin after local exposure cobalt ions, but not chrome ions. The observed differences are determined by different adsorption of these ions by nanodiamonds: in vitro experiments showed that nanodiamonds adsorbed cobalt ions, but not chrome ions from water solutions. The perspectives of using modified nanodiamonds as a new adsorbent for prevention of allergic contact dermatitis induced by ions of bivalent metals are disc… Show more

“…The functionalization influence of detonation DNPs on their biocompatibility is controversial. Detonation nanodiamonds covered by cobalt ions showed a protective effect against contact dermatitis in mini-pigs, induced by local exposure of the animal skin to these ions [101]. Detonation nanodiamonds with hyperbranched polyglycerol coating showed good cytocompatibility with A549 cancer cells and U937 macrophages [54].…”

“…Co ions were shown to adsorb to the surface of nanodiamonds in one study, preventing the elicitation of ACD reactions to the metal (1016). Interactions between metal ions and nanoparticles have been shown to augment many other immunological processes including DC maturation and macrophage activation in vitro, as well as pulmonary inflammation and ACD elicitation in vivo (727,769,1017,1018) Likewise, sequestration of haptenic or immunogenic metal ions as a result of adsorption to nanomaterials has the capacity to impede their capacity to induce or elicit allergic responses.…”
