Effects Of Dried Centella Asiatica Leaf Meal as An Herbal Feed Additive On The Growth Performance, Haematology And Serum Biochemistry Of Broiler Chicken

Abstract: This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of supplementing different levels of Spondiasmombin leaf meal on the performance and blood profile of broiler chickens. Experimental parameters covered growth performance and some heamatological and blood serum analysis. One hundred and sixty, day old Arbo acre broiler chicks were randomly divided into four treatments groups with four (4) replicates, each of ten birds in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Group 1 was fed basal di… Show more

“…The utilization of plants for various purposes has been identified by several authors, as a source of raw materials for pharmaceuticals, food, and other industries. Alagbe et al [7] reported that there are more than 250,000 medicinal plants worldwide, of which 21,000 are listed and I. tinctoria is one of the lesser-known medicinal plants. Aside from the medicinal use of I. tinctoria and other Indigofera species contain precursors of indigo dye compounds.…”

“…The essential oils produced by phytogenic plants as a result of their secondary metabolism are commonly employed to enhance the shelf life of foods (Adam et al, 1998). Many studies have underlined the need of selecting appropriate herbs, active components, and effective dietary dosages for these substances' suitability in influencing bird performance (Alagbe, 2018;Ncube et al, 2018;Aderemiet al, 2018;Rahman and Yang, 2018;Sebolaet al, 2019;Oloruntolaet al, 2019;Abdul Basit et al, 2020;Diarra and Anand, 2020;Guliza and Downs, 2020;Abdelattyet al, 2021;Ogwuegbuet al, 2021). Laurel leaves, which come from the bay laurel plant and are high in bioactive components, are one of these phytogenic feed additives.…”

“…Moreover, a correlation between some of the components and diverse stimulatory effects on the digestive system and digestive enzyme production has been detected (Vinus et al., 2018 ). Medicinal plant components also have been proved to exhibit anti‐parasitic (Gohel et al., 2019 ), antiviral (Alagbe et al., 2018 ), antioxygenic, anti‐mycotic (Abed et al., 2021 ) and insecticidal effects.…”
