Effects of dietary tea polyphenols on growth, biochemical and antioxidant responses, fatty acid composition and expression of lipid metabolism related genes of large yellow croaker(Larimichthys crocea)

Abstract: The study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary tea polyphenols (TP) on growth performance, biochemical and antioxidants responses, fatty acid composition, and lipid metabolism-related gene expressions of large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea). Four diets were formulated with different levels of TP (0.00%, 0.01%, 0.02% and 0.05%). Results showed that growth performance of L. croceawere not different among dietary treatments. Compared with the control group, fish in 0.02% TP group had lower bo… Show more

“…In concurrent with the present study, several medicinal herbs resulted in improving the growth rate, probably due to the increased palatability which associated with increased feed intake (Sarhadi et al, 2020;Srichaiyo et al, 2020). However, the high supplementation levels decreased the growth performance, which can be attributed to the high contents of polyphenols and fibers (Ji et al, 2018). Furthermore, the depressive effects on the growth of medicinal plants may be related to toxic constituents, excessive doses, or allergic conditions (Yılmaz et al, 2012;Yılmaz et al, 2013).…”

“…Large yellow croaker ( Larimichthys crocea ) is the most widely cultured marine fish species in China due to its high nutritive value, pleasant taste and natural resource depletion (Du et al., 2017; Ji et al., 2018; Liu et al., 2020). Previous studies have investigated the nutritional requirement, feeding habits and development of digestive system of large yellow croaker larvae (Ai et al., 2008; Feng, Cai, Zuo, Mai, & Ai, 2017; Mai et al., 2005; Xie, Ai, Mai, Xu, & Wang, 2012).…”

“…Based on these beneficial effects, therefore, TP has been widely used in food processing and livestock production. Recently, TP has also been applied in fish feeds and showed some positive effects, such as improving growth performance, antioxidant activity and lipid utilization (Hwang et al., 2012; Ji et al., 2017). However, the effects of dietary TP supplementation on flesh quality have not been well investigated.…”
