“…Mansur et al. also reported that CHS ‐RNAi treatment in Rhodnius prolixus adult females affected oogenesis, reducing the size of the ovary and resulting in a greater number of atresic oocytes compared with controls . This result is consistent with the findings of the present study, suggesting that MysCHSA plays an important role in R. prolixus ecdysis and fecundity, and further suggesting that MysCHSA is a good target for controlling the pest.…”

“…This study is the first report that identified the functions of MysCHSA in M. separata , as well as global changes at the protein and transcript levels after MysCHSA ‐RNAi treatment. Together, the data confirmed these observations and demonstrated that the MysCHSA silencing interfered with ecdysis and oogenesis . Therefore, we proposed a possible mechanism involving CHSA affecting ecdysis and the eggshell, via the canonical chitin biosynthesis pathway regulating the biosynthesis of chitin.…”

“…Injection of ds ChS s at an amount from 200 to 3000 ng per individual caused larval lethality, impaired ecdysis, decreased adult fecundity and/or affected egg hatching in Orthopteran Locusta migratoria 17, 22, Hemipteran Rhodnius prolixus 23 and Nilaparvata lugens 45, Coleopteran T. castaneum 7, 8, 21, Lepidopteran Spodoptera exigua 19, Ostrinia furnacalis 14 and Bombyx mori 46, 47, and Dipteran Drosophila melanogaster 48, 49 and Bactrocera dorsalis 24. These data demonstrate that ChS s are the potential candidate genes for an RNAi-based pest control strategy.…”

“…In the other hemipteran, Rhodnius prolixus , knocked down of crustacean cardioactive peptide by dsRNA had up to 84% mortality (Lee et al., ). Meanwhile, in this hemipteran insect, injection of chitin synthase dsRNA reduced transcript levels and oviposition, also caused reduction of ovary size, deformed eggs, and ecdysis abnormalities (Mansur et al., ). Ingestion of catalase dsRNA knocked down gene expression in S. avenae and reduced survival rate and ecdysis index (Deng and Zhao et al., ).…”
