Effects of biochar on nutrients and the microbial community structure of tobacco-planting soils

Abstract: The effect of rice straw biochar on soil nutrients was studied using a randomized block experimental design in a tobacco-planting field, and differences in soil bacterial and fungal community structures were studied using high-throughput sequencing technology. The results indicated that the soil pH, CEC, total organic carbon (TOC), inorganic carbon (IC), soil total nitrogen (total N), total potassium (total K), available phosphorus (available P), and available potassium (available K) contents were all increase… Show more

“…Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum), one of the most important economic crops in China, is cultivated approximately 1.41 million ha every year, and then, 2.73 million tons of tobacco leaf is yielded (Fan 2013). But the quantity and quality of tobacco leaf were both decreased during the past years due to soil degradation which resulted from the oversupply of mineral fertilizer and long-term continuous tobacco cropping (Gao et al 2017;Zhang et al 2016a). Soil acidification and the decline of soil acid-buffering capacity were also very common in TG soil after long-term tobacco plantation (Zhang et al 2016b).…”

“…46,47 Biochar had some good characteristics, including being rich in nutrients, improving the nutrient utilization efficiency of crops, adjusting soil pH and removal of soil pollutants, etc. [48][49][50][51][52] Due to these characteristics, biochar could improve the soil quality, thus the research concerning biochar and soil(s) were relatively hotter. The further analysis of these 2062 articles containing soil or soils revealed that "carbon" and "effects" were the rst and second most used words, aer soil(s) and biochar.…”
