Postoperative adhesions (POA) are postsurgical fibrinolytic connections that can cause complications, and alternative materials have drawn attention to their prevention. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of andiroba oil in preventing POA in the uterus and ovaries of sheep. Sixteen female Santa Inês adult sheep were randomly divided into two groups, a control group (CCG) with eight of them submitted to surgical trauma caused by bipolar diathermy in the uterine horn and right ovary without treatment to prevent POA and another group (AAG) with another eight ewes that underwent the same trauma, but were treated with the application of andiroba oil on the traumatized surfaces. Fifteen days after surgical trauma, the occurrence of POA and laparoscopic adesiolysis were evaluated. The bipolar diathermy was able to cause POA in 75% of the sheep. Bipolar diathermy caused POA in 100% of the CCG ewes and 50% of the AAG ewes. In CCG animals with adherence, in 25% of them, it was possible to perform adhesiolysis partially. Andiroba oil did not completely prevent the formation of postoperative adhesions in the uterus and ovaries of sheep, but it did prevent the formation of dense adhesions, facilitating laparoscopic adhesiolysis.

Myracrodruon urundeuva Allemão, Anacardiaceae, is popularly known as "aroeira-do-sertão". It is a common species in the state of Ceará and widely used for its anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, astringent, anti-allergic, and antidiarrheal activities and also in the treatment of skin wounds. The aim of this study was to evaluate the healing effect of the cream prepared with the decoction from the stem bark of a 7-year-old cultivated M. urundeuva in rats submitted to excisional wounds. Male Wistar rats were divided into three groups: sham group, which did not received a treatment; 10% "aroeira" cream group, which received application of the plant cream; and control group, which received application of the base cream. The animals had their skin fragments (8 mm in diameter) removed, and each group was observed at 2, 7, and 12 days after surgery. The macroscopic analysis was performed with a digital paquimeter. The fragments of newly formed tissue were removed from the skin for slides processing and hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and picrosirius red staining techniques, in order to verify the effect of the 10% "aroeira" cream in different stages of the healing process. Macroscopic analyses demonstrated a decrease in the area of the 10% "aroeira" cream treated wounds, compared with controls. In addition, the histological study evidenced an improvement in the inflammatory aspects (infiltrate, edema, hemorrhage), in this treated group, as well as the presence of a new epithelium and a greater intensity in collagen deposition. Thus, a favorable effect was observed regarding the use of 10% "aroeira" cream in the cicatricial process of cutaneous wounds in rats, modulating the inflammatory response of healing and accelerating tissue repair of experimental excisional skin wounds.

RESUMO A andiroba é utilizada por populações residentes na região Amazônica com uma grande diversidade de uso medicinal. O objetivo deste trabalho consistiu em uma investigação sobre a etnofarmacologia da Carapa guianensis em bases de dados indexadas analisando os usos e manejos realizados. Foram consultados artigos indexados em bases de dados da Internet (PubMed, LILACS, SciELO e Periódicos Capes), entre julho de 2017 e junho de 2018. Considerando o termo de busca "Carapa guianensis", nenhum filtro, como idioma ou intervalo de datas, foi aplicado à pesquisa. A contagem múltipla (duplicação) das publicações foi rastreada e excluída. Um total de 46 artigos indexados, variando entre os anos de 2005 a 2018, que se referiam a C. guianensis, foram encontrados em todas as bases de dados. A maioria (89%) dos trabalhos publicados foram desenvolvidos na região Neotropical. Este resultado pode ser decorrente da disponibilidade de extratos da planta, normalmente encontrados em países tropicais. Em uma parcela dos 46 (100%) trabalhos publicados foi demonstrado que a andiroba pode ser utilizada como insetífugo (17,40%), carrapaticida (6,52%), anti-inflamatório (8,70%), antiparasitário (8,70%), antimicrobiano (4,34%) e antialérgico (4,34%). Os estudos de C. guianensis revelam que a planta possui fatores fitoquímicos eficientes para o seu uso terapêutico. Estes constituintes, identificados nos estudos, são eficazes principalmente como insetífugo, carrapaticida e anti-inflamatório.
