Introduction: Tooth extraction can result in loss of alveolar bone. The application of biomaterials Bovine Amniotic Membrane (BAM) that containing growth factors and collagen is expected to play a role in socket preservation. This study aimed to observe the effect of BAM application on the growth of osteoblasts, osteocytes, and collagen in histological preparate of the alveolar bone socket of Sprague Dawley rats (SD). Methods: 16 male SD rats were used in this group. SD rats were extracted on the mandible central incisivus. Afterward, it was divided into two groups, specifically the control group (without treatment) and the treatment group (BAM application). After extraction, the treatment group was applied with BAM with a size of 1.5 mm x 10 mm in socket alveolar bone. On the 14th and 28th day, the rats were euthanized and the alveolar bone socket of mandibular tissue was taken and stained with Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) and Masson Trichrome (MT). Results: The results of all groups showed that the number of osteoblasts and collagen thickness was higher on day 14th compared to day 28th, while osteocytes continued to increase from day 14th to 28th. The thickness of collagen, osteoblasts, and osteocytes in groups with BAM application was higher than without application. Statistical results showed that there were significant differences between groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: The application of BAM can act as material preservation socket. This biomaterial can accelerate recovery by increasing collagen thickness, osteoblasts, and osteocytes.

Anredera cordifolia Steen. contains flavonoids, saponins, steroids and alkaloids. Flavonoid compounds have the same indications as glibenclamide to lower blood glucose levels. Saponin compounds in binahong leaves can lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels. This study aims to determine the comparison of the antidiabetic effect and dose between the extract and infusion of binahong leaves on male Swiss strain mice induced by alloxan. This type of research uses experimental methods with pre and post test with the controlled group design. The test animals used in this study were 40 male Swiss strain mice which were divided into 8 groups. The negative control group was only given 0.5% CMC Na, the positive control group was given glibenclamide for comparison, the treatment group was given extract and infusion of binahong leaves at a dose of 35 mg/KgBW, 70 mg/KgBW, and 140 mg/KgBW. The results of this study showed that there were differences in blood sugar levels before and after alloxan induction (sigh<0.05). Binahong leaf extract and infusion had effectiveness as antidiabetic in alloxan-induced Swiss male mice with the results showing that the three doses had an antidiabetic effect and the first dose of 35mg/KgBB of the extract gave the maximum effect of 40.6%, while the infusion dose was 40.6%. III 140mg/KgBB has a maximum effect of 30.5%. So it can be concluded that there is a statistically significant difference in blood sugar levels in the extract and infusion groups of binahong leaves.

Ethnomedicines in the literature compare the therapeutic efficacy of various herbs based on active ingredients of plants and animals. The application of phytomedicines in the field of dentistry is uncommon. The main objective of this article is to access the efficacy of ethnomedicines and newly evolving treatment modalities in reducing post-op complications following dentoalveolar surgeries. Inclusion criteria were selected according to the population, intervention, control, and outcomes (PICO) format. Case reports, case series, retrospective studies, and studies with inappropriate reporting of outcomes were all excluded. An electronic search of English literature in PubMed was performed using the keywords Ethnomedicine, Antiinflammatory, Analgesics, Therapeutic herbs, Herbal mouthwashes, Third molar surgery. A total of 25 articles were selected, of which three were on herbal mouthwashes and 22 were on anti-inflammatory effect. All the articles were regarding the therapeutic effect of the herbs. The present paper studies various traditionally used therapeutic herbs, their benefits, and shortcomings with their application in dentistry. This study has shown the different herbal alternatives to conventionally used drugs in relation to third molar.
