Abstract: Surface relaxations of W (100) planes and their effect on point defects are computed with the help of a program that can simulate various processes occurring in the bulk of a solid and in the vicinity of the surface. Formation energies of vacancies and divacancies at various depths from the W (100) surface are calculated.
