“…In this study, this drug significantly reduced the locomotor activity and withdrawal syndrome in mice. The potential to reduce morphine withdrawal signs in animals has been reported for some plants such as Rosmarinus offi cinalis (Hosseinzadeh and Nourbakhsh, 2003), 1 h after (B) or 2 h after (C) morphine administration (s.c.) (Sharifzadeh et al, 2006), Ferula gummosa (Ramezani et al, 2001), Nepeta glomerulosa (Hosseinzadeh and Ziaee, 2006a) and Salvia leriifolia (Hosseinzadeh and Lary, 2000). In this study, the extracts of saffron also reduced the withdrawal syndrome and locomotion activity in mice dose dependently.…”

“…On day 4, a single dose of morphine (50 mg/kg) was injected 2 h before naloxone treatment. In fact each mouse received 10 doses of morphine (Zarrindast et al, 1995;Hosseinzadeh and Lary, 2000).…”

“…After the naloxone challenge, mice were immediately placed in a glass cylinder (30 cm high, 20 cm in diameter). The number of jumps was recorded for 30 min after naloxone injection (Zarrindast et al, 1995;Hosseinzadeh and Lary, 2000).…”

“…The activities of flavonoids may be responsible for the alleviation of withdrawal signs in morphine-dependent mice. However, previous studies have reported that the mechanisms of some Lamiaceae plants such as Rosmarinus officinalis (17), Nepeta glomerulosa (18), Salvia leriifolia (19) and Marrubium vulgare (20) in reducing morphine withdrawal signs are mainly through the reduction of motor activity, as well as coordination and interaction with opioid receptors.…”
