Effect of nanosized CeO2 or ZnO loading on adsorption and catalytic properties of activated carbon

Abstract: This graphical abstract describes in general the treatment processes of dye-polluted water using the prepared samples. Activated carbon undergoes both adsorption and catalytic oxidation processes, further the photocatalytic efficiency of each catalyst supported by activated carbon enhanced the removal of dye completely in a short time in addition to adsorption process in the early irradiation time.

“…In the case of CeO 2 , the characteristic peak of Ce-O bond appears at around 450 cm −1 , whereas in the case of composite it has been shifted to 461 cm −1 . The shift may be due to the formation of chemical bond between cerium and AC through oxygen-containing groups (Gupta and Saleh 2011a, b;Irajiboroujeni et al 2016;El-Khouly et al 2017).
