Effect of Ketamine on the Stapedius Reflex in the Squirrel Monkey

Abstract: \s=b\We evaluated the effect of ketamine hydrochloride on the acoustically elicited stapedius reflex of squirrel monkeys. After intramuscular injection, in the presence of normal tympanometry, the amplitude of the contralateral stapedius reflex was severely depressed, even at low, preanesthetic dose levels. Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD.
