Effect of initial CaCO3 saturation levels on the CO2 corrosion of 1Cr carbon steel

Abstract: This paper presents the investigation on the effect of calcium on the corrosion behavior of 1Cr carbon steel under various levels of initial CaCO3 saturation ( S CaCO 3) of the bulk solutions. All the experiments were performed at 80°C in 1 wt% aqueous NaCl solution saturated with CO2. Four initial SCaCO3 levels were investigated, namely 0, 0.6, 2, and 10. The corrosion process was followed using linear polarization resistance, potentiodynamic sweeps, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The surface mor… Show more

“…On the other hand, under the research conditions in this paper, the greater the yield strength of the metal was, the greater the decrease rate of tensile strength and yield strength was under the condition E in table 3 for 7 days. From the fracture pictures of different metals, it can be seen that Q235A and 3Cr13 steels exhibited brittle fracture, while Q345A and 45# steels presented ductile fracture [20]. This was because among the four metals studied in this paper, the tensile strength and yield strength of Q235A steel were the lowest, indicating that its toughness was lower.…”

“…The results have been adjusted with the weight loss measurements. The flow results are compared with the ones obtained in the static experiments [34]. During the first 24 hours, the corrosion rate is seen to increase rapidly from ≈ 0.8 mm yr −1 up to ≈ 1.5 mm yr −1 , where it plateaued.…”

“…However, in this study, the precipitation of CaCO 3 and FeCO 3 was treated as separate events, each of them occurring at different times. In our further investigation [26], the effect of calcium ions on the precipitation of protective FeCO 3 was evaluated at various initial saturation rations of the solution with respect to CaCO 3, namely 0, 0.6, 2 and 10. It was determined that the presence of calcium resulted in the precipitation of substitutional solid solution Fe x Ca y CO 3 .…”

“…[3,4] The service environment of tubing in the production wells of polymer flooding is complex, and corrosion failure of tubing tends to occur in the production process. [5][6][7][8][9] Taking Xinjiang Oilfield as an example, N80 steel tubing in polymer flooding production wells often meets with corrosion failure. [10] However, the corrosion mechanism of polymer to tubing is still unclear, and it is necessary to further explain its corrosion mechanism.…”
