Abstract: Heusler alloys with Mn and Co have been found to exhibit interesting electronic and magnetic properties. Mn 2 CoAl is well known SGS compound while Mn 2 CoGa has weak half metallic character. By using plane wave pseudo-potential method, we studied the effect of Fe and Cr doping on half-metalicity and magnetism of these compounds. “…The Slater-Pauling rule and the hybridization scheme for the Heusler alloys, developed by Galanakis et al [7,8,16], is widely used to interpret the spin resolved electronic band structure of the Heusler compounds. In our past work, we have exploited this hybridization scheme to explain the observed spin resolved electronic bandstructure and magnetic moments of the inverse and full Heusler compounds [53,54].
