Abstract: The aim of this work is to assess the influence of different commercial diluents on some mechanical properties of two bisphenolic epoxy compounds, cold-cured by a polyamide curing agent, to be employed as epoxy structural adhesives for building and industrial applications. The diluents under analysis were epoxy, bituminous, nitro, acrylic and extraction. The choice of these products was made on the basis of their wide commercial availability as diluents for epoxies used as adhesives and in different industrial… Show more

“…46,47 Of course, epoxy resins have limitations, and to overcome these, several strategies have been employed, such as using reactive and non-reactive additives. 48 Recently, a flexible aliphatic epoxy with urethane linkages was created using CO 2 in a non-isocyanate, environmentally friendly method (Fig. 16).…”

“…Reactive diluents play a significant role in epoxy resin industry by paving the way towards process or applications requiring low viscosities and improved mechanical performances in terms of flexibility, elongation or impact resistance for instance. 2 Recent requirements toward low volatile organic compound (VOC) and low carbon impact stressed out their utilization and the development of new series prepared from renewable resources. Common current commercial biobased glycidyl ether reactive diluents include dodecyl and tetradecyl glycidyl ethers (C 12 –C 14 MGE), cardanol monoglycidyl ether (CMGE) and butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDGE) which can be respectively derived from vegetable oil, 3 cardanol (cashew nutshell liquid) 4 and 1,4-butanediol (sugar fermentation).…”

“…However, the main limitations are related to the curing of thick or pigmentated systems as they inhibit the penetration of light to the bottom [ 20 ]. This technique has already been implemented in many applications, such as wood finishing [ 21 ], biomedical engineering [ 22 ], dental materials [ 23 , 24 ] or adhesives [ 19 , 25 , 26 , 27 ], and more recently in the automotive refinish coatings market [ 20 , 28 , 29 ]. The applications of the coating are so extensive as to include even the keratin treatment of human hair, i.e., photoprotective coating of human hair [ 30 ], using its aqueous mixtures on a natural halloysite clay nanotube [ 31 , 32 , 33 ] that can be easily decorated [ 34 , 35 , 36 ].…”
