Effect of Dietary Zinc-Oxide or Nano-Zinc Oxide on Growth Performance, Oxidative Stress, and Immunity of Growing Rabbits under Hot Climate Conditions

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to evaluate growth performance parameters, antioxidant capacity, immune response, and hepatic and renal functions of APRI growing rabbits fed diets supplemented with zinc-oxide (ZnO) or nano-zinc oxide (ZnO-NP). A number of 60 weaned rabbits (5 wk of age) were divided into three experimental groups were fed a basal diet supplemented with 0 (G1), 50 mg ZnO (G2), and 30 mg ZnO-NP (G3) per kg during the growing period (5 to 13 wk of age). Live body weight, feed consumption, weight… Show more

“…Compared with the control group, significantly higher increment was determined in experimental groups II and III. Kamel et al (2020) determined a positive influence on antioxidant properties of the organism, morphological and biochemical parameters of increment of rabbits fed with a complex of supplements that included zinc, and those results are also coherent with the results of our experiment.…”

“…The solid-phase method overcomes the disadvantage of particle agglomeration in the traditional wet method and has the advantages of no solvent, high yield, and easy-to-master reaction conditions. However, the reaction process is often incomplete or liquefaction may occur in the process [ 15 ].…”

“…e solid-phase method overcomes the disadvantage of particle agglomeration in the traditional wet method and has the advantages of no solvent, high yield, and easy-to-master reaction conditions. However, the reaction process is often incomplete or liquefaction may occur in the process [15]. e liquid-phase method has incomparable advantages in material preparation, with low production cost, low growth conditions, simple device, easy operation, small particle size, and others, but the use of organic solvents lower the ZnO purity.…”

“…The formation of ROS is another effect of heat stress, which damages proteins, DNA, phospholipid membranes, and other macromolecules, causing lipid peroxidation and cellular disruption [2,22]. A depressed mitochondrial respiratory chain leads to ROS produced at a rate that exceeds the capacity of the cell to neutralize them [2].…”

“…Despite advances in the construction and design of animal housing facilities and cooling technologies, heat stress can still severely affect animal production [25]. Broiler chickens' growth performance is significantly depressed by high ambient temperature, so several strategies have been developed to alleviate that effect [22].…”
