Effect of dietary supplementation of selenium nanoparticles on growth performance and nutrient digestibility of common carp (Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus 1758) fingerlings fed sunflower meal based diet

Abstract: Sunflower meal based diet supplemented with selenium nanoparticles (Se NPs) atlevels of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mg kg-1 were fed common carp (Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus 1758) fingerlings in a seventy days feeding trial, to examine the effects on growth, nutrient digestibility and heamatology. Triplicate tanks were used and each tank contained 15 fingerlings that were subjected to experimental feeding at 4% of their live wet weight. A non-digestible marker, chromic oxide was added in the feed at 1% level. Growth per… Show more

“…Elicitors may induce gene expression to create enzymes that boost the route of secondary metabolites [ 92 ]. Existing studies by Hussein et al [ 93 ] and Zahedi et al [ 94 ] have also revealed that Se-NP application promotes plants to generate higher secondary metabolites. Corresponding to this, Ciccolini et al [ 95 ] showed that Se-induced accumulation of phenols and flavonoids in lettuce increased antioxidant effectiveness and stress adaptation.…”

“…Emerging studies suggest that supplementing Se‐NPs in plant‐based diets could enhance feed utilization that would, otherwise not be achieved. In common carp, supplementation of Se‐NPs in sunflower meal‐based diets significantly enhanced the feed conversion ratio and nutrients digestibility 147 . Therefore, nanotechnology could promote the utilization of plant ingredients in aquafeeds, which is an important step toward reducing the environmental impact of aquaculture.…”

“…Specifically, dietary supplementation of Se‐NPs significantly improved the final weight and relative final weight in gibel carp ( Carassius auratus gibelio ). In common carp, the optimum level for Se‐NPs supplementation in a sunflower‐based diet was established at a 2 mg/kg diet as it yielded the best growth performance 147 . In juvenile mahseer ( Tor putitora ), the best physiological and biochemical results were obtained in the fish fed diets containing 0.68 mg Se/kg diet 150 .…”
