Effect of cutting time and IBA application on rooting of edible cherry laurel (Prunus laurocerasus cv. 'Kiraz') cuttings

Abstract: Cherry laurel known as "karayemiş", "laz cherry" or "taflan", is a popular evergreen racemes fruit in Turkey and some other Caucasus countries. In this study, cherry laurel variety 'Kiraz' was propagated with hardwood, semi-hardwood and softwood cuttings with half leaf and effect of IBA application on rooting ability was determined. Cuttings with different lignification phase were collected from October, December, February (hardwood cuttings), May (softwood cuttings) and June (semi-hardwood cuttings) between 1… Show more

“…On the other hand, the cuttings that were taken from Damaye goji berry variety in October and the control group cuttings that did not apply IBA and the cuttings that were taken in December with the dose of 0 (control) or 2000 ppm IBA and the cuttings that were taken from the NQ7 variety in December and applied 1000 or 2000 ppm IBA dose could not be rooting obtained (Table 1). These findings are the same with Celik et al (2015) results. Again, only 2.67% of the cuttings taken from Damaye variety in December could be transplanted and this value was recorded as the lowest level (Table 2).…”

“…It is stated that fully green cuttings are not preferred for goji berries, which can be reproduced with semi hard-wood and/or hard-wood cuttings taken in summer or winter time. In addition, it has been determined that the application of auxin group growth regulators that increase rooting in cuttings also increases the rooting success (Feng et al, 2000, Celik et al, 2015Asanica et al, 2016). In the present study, which investigated the effects of cutting taking time and IBA application on rooting in the reproduction of goji berries, 4 different doses of IBA (0, 500, 1000 and 2000 ppm), planted in perlite medium in bottom heated trays and they rooted under high tunnel conditions with misting.…”

“…Similar results were also revealed in the oleander plant by Şeker et al [31] in arbutus, Pivetta et al [32]. Çelik et al [19] in cherry laurels, Çelik [16] in blueberries and Kim et al [30] in acacia can also state that rooting change according to the cutting taking time. It is also stated that the Autumn olive berry can easily be rooted under semi-woody cuttings under mist watering, but it is mandatory to apply 8,000 ppm IBA in powder form [24].…”

“…And root number decided whether the cuttings should be removed from the rooting medium according to the rooting condition. Rooting degree as expressed 1-9 scale calculated by the root formation of the cuttings as, 1-no root, 3-weak roots, 5-medium roots, 7-strong roots and 9-very strong root formation put forward by analogy with the report of Çelik [16] and Çelik et al [19]. ArcSin √x transformation was applied to the percentage values, while statistical analyzes were performed with the SPSS-23 statis-tical program, and the real difference between the cutting taking time, IBA doses and their interactions was evaluated by Duncan Multiple Range Test.…”
