Effect of cerebrocrast on the lymphocyte blast transformation activity in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
Abstract: Both IDDM and NIDDM are characterized by deviations in peripheral T and B lymphocyte count, Thelper: Tsuppressor ratio, as well as by impaired Tsuppressor function. These abnormalities may promote insulin antibody and other antibody production, contributing to overt diabetes mellitus development in early stage of the disease. In the present study we explored the effects of cerebrocrast(1, 4-dihydropyridine derivative) administration on Con A- and IL-2-stimulated tissue lymphocyte blast transformation activity …

“…Synthetic derivatives of 1,4-DHP possess important biochemical and pharmacological properties. They show modulating activity on cardiovascular and neuronal processes, on corticosteroid regulatory circuits, prevent inflammatory and diabetic processes, and some show antineoplastic, geroprotective, radioprotective, and radiosensitizing effects (Briede et al, 1999(Briede et al, , 2002Emanuél et al, 1985;Ivanov et al, 1990Ivanov et al, , 2004Klegeris et al, 2002;Liutkevicius et al, 1999;Misane et al, 1998;Vartanian et al, 2004). Some of the positive effects of 1,4-DHPs are long-term; and due to their low or very low toxicity, this group of compounds appears to offer promise for medical applications (Goncharova et al, 1995;Klusa et al, 1996).…”

“…Nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds such as dihydropyridines and N-arylquinolines have attracted much interest because of their numerous biological activities. They are also used as an intermediate for the synthesis of some valuable pharmaceutical products such as antioxidants, [21] antidiabetics, [22] antitumor agents and NADH models. [21,23] The other biological and pharmaceutical properties of these compounds consist of blocking of calcium canals, [24] anti-inflammatory [25] and analgesic properties, usefulness for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, [26,27] HIV protease inhibition, [28] and antiplasmodial, [29] intrinsic, [30] cytotoxic [31] and hepatoprotective activities.…”

“…1,4‐DHP compounds possess various biological and medicinal properties including blocking of calcium canal and antitumor activity, antisclerotic activities, antidiabetic, anti‐inflammatory, and analgesic properties and for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases . Barbituric acid (hexahydropyrimidine‐2,4,6‐trione) is the structural basis for several drugs, for example, antispasmodic, soporific, anticonvulsant, anesthetic, and antitumor drugs .…”
