“…These results show increased brain 5‐HT system sensitivity to GDNF in mice genetically predisposed to depressive‐like behavior. Taken together with the data on BDNF effects on gene expression and behavior (Naumenko et al, ), these data suggest a principal role of 5‐HT 1A and 5‐HT 2A receptor gene expression in the hippocampus for antidepressant effects of neurotrophic factors.…”

“…Recently, we showed a considerable role of the brain 5‐HT system in the antidepressive effect of brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in an animal model of depressive‐like behavior. Concomitantly, a significant genetically defined difference in the response to BDNF was shown in two mouse strains, suggesting a significant role of genotype in the sensitivity to neurotrophic factors (Naumenko et al, ). The aim of the present study was to compare the effect of central acute administration of GDNF on 1) catalepsy, anxiety, and depressive‐like behavior; 2) functional activity of 5‐HT 1A and 5‐HT 2A receptors and the expression of 5‐HT 1A and 5‐HT 2A genes; and 3) expression of the genes encoding 5‐HT transporter and the key enzyme of 5‐HT synthesis in the brain, tryptophan hydroxylase‐2, in mice genetically predisposed to psychopathology (ASC as a model of depressive‐like behavior and cataleptic “nondepressive” mouse strain CBA).…”

“…To our knowledge, the present study is the first to report a CORT‐induced anhedonia in mice. FST and TST are often used to evaluate behavioral despair (David et al, ; Pollak et al, ; Yan et al, ; Naumenko et al, ). The decreases in immobility time following the CORT treatment and the consistent lack of changes across weeks in control mice were in agreement with other studies using a similar CORT treatment regimen (Ago et al, ; Zhao et al, ).…”

“…Briefly, mice received bilateral i.c.v. infusions (4 μL) under isoflurane (4%) anesthesia (Bregma: AP: −0.5 mm, Lat: ±1.6 mm, DV: −2 mm; [26,27]). Following surgery, mice were monitored to ensure weight gain, muscle tone, and proper neurological response and general health [28].…”
