Objective To evaluate the effects of mild moxibustion (MM) for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) through comparisons with those of placebo moxibustion. Patients and Methods: This was a single-site, randomized controlled trial was conducted at Shanghai Research Institute of Acupuncture and Meridian in China and enrolled 76 participants who met the Rome IV diagnostic criteria for IBS-D between May 2017 and December 2019. 76 participants were randomized to either mild moxibustion (MM) or placebo moxibustion group (PM) in a 1:1 ratio. 18 sessions of MM or PM were implemented over the course of 6 weeks (3 times per week). The primary outcome was adequate relief after 6 weeks of treatment. Results Of 76 patients with IBS-D who were randomized (38 in the MM group and 38 in the PM group) were included in the intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis set. After treatment at week 6, the response rate was significantly higher in the MM group than the PM group (81.58% vs. 36.84%,) with an estimated difference of 44.74 (95% CI, 23.46 to 66.02, P < 0.001). No participant reported severe adverse effects. Conclusion The findings suggest that mild moxibustion may be more effective than placebo moxibustion for the treatment of IBS-D, with effects lasting up to 12 weeks. Background. Poststroke aphasia (PSA) is a disabling condition that decreases the quality of life, and the duration of the disease harms the quality of life of PSA patients. Acupuncture has been widely employed for PSA. There is some evidence for the immediate treatment efficacy of acupuncture for PSA; however, long-term results after acupuncture may be poorer. Methods. This is a multicentre, randomized, blinded, nonacupoint (NA) acupuncture controlled, multimodal neuroimaging clinical trial. A total of 48 subjects with subacute PSA will be randomly assigned to an acupoint group or an NA control group. The acupoint group will receive acupuncture with normal needling at DU20, EX-HN1, HT5, GB39, EX-HN12, EX-HN13, and CV23. The NA control group will receive acupuncture in locations not corresponding to acupuncture points as sham acupoints. Both groups will receive identical speech and language therapy thrice a week for four weeks. The primary outcome will be the change in the aphasia quotient (AQ) score measured by the Western Aphasia Battery (WAB) test during the 12th week after randomization. Participants will be blindly assessed at prerandomization (baseline) and 4 weeks, 12 weeks, and 24 weeks after randomization. The secondary outcomes include the Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination (BDAE) score, the Disease Prognosis Scale score for ischaemic stroke, etc. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG) will also be performed at 4-time intervals as secondary outcomes. All scores and image evaluations will be taken at the same point as the linguistic evaluation. The multilevel evaluation technique will be used to assess the long-term efficacy of acupuncture therapy. MRI scans and EEG will be used to assess acupuncture-related neuroplasticity changes. Discussion. The results from our trial will help to supply evidence for the long-term acupuncture effects for PSA over a long follow-up period. It will provide valuable information for future studies in the field of PSA treatment. The trial was registered at the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry on 16 March 2020 (ChiCTR2000030879).

Background: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is considered a common complication of cancer or cancer treatment, which has a serious adverse effect on the life and of cancer patients, leading to a decline in their quality of life (QoL). The existing clinical trials revealed that acupuncture has a positive effect on CRF, and there are fewer adverse events confirmed in the corresponding systematic review. However, in recent years, new studies on using acupuncture to treat CRF were conducted, so in order to evaluate its efficacy, an updated systematic review. This protocol provides research methods for systematic review and meta-analysis of the safety and effectiveness of acupuncture for the treatment of CRF. Methods: We will searched the randomized controlled trial literature of acupuncture treatment for CRF in 4 English and 4 Chinese databases, including PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (Central), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Biomedical Literature Database(CBM), China Science Journal Database (VIP), and Wanfang Database. Simultaneously, other resources are manually retrieved which include reference lists of identified publications, conference articles, and grey literature. We also included the clinical randomized controlled trials of acupuncture treatment for CRF in the study. The search language is limited to Chinese and English. Two trained reviewers independently completed research screening, data extraction, and research quality assessment. RevMan (V.5.3) software was used to perform data statistical analysis and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) was used to evaluate the quality of evidence. Results: This study is based on past and present clinical evidence to comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture treatment for CRF. Conclusion: Through this systematic review, we will provide the latest high-quality evidence of whether acupuncture treatment for CRF is effective and safe and also provide a theoretical basis for clinicians to choose acupuncture for the treatment of CRF.
