Ecophysiology of caatinga native species under semi-arid conditions

Abstract: Caatinga is a biome from the Brazilian northeastern semiarid region which needs further studies for the preservation of its native species. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological behavior of six native species. The experiment was arranged in six treatments (native species) and three replicates in a randomized block design. Net photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance, photosynthetic photon flux density, chlorophyll content, and soil moisture were evaluated. According to the results,… Show more

“…Vog (Nascimento et al, 2021) has high phenotypic plasticity, with the ability to alter their characteristics depending on environmental conditions (Lima et al, 2017). However, M. urundeuva is a species sensitive to the effects of low precipitation, significantly reducing the photosynthetic rate (Mesquita et al, 2018). According to Marengo et al (2016), in the period 2015-2016 presented the maximum intensity of drought in Northeast Brazil, with rainfall rates below 600 mm.…”

“…The Caatinga seeds are an object of study that is still undervalued, several characteristics are still poorly understood about this vegetation formation (MESQUITA et al, 2018;DANTAS et al, 2019). The production of knowledge about the Caatinga environment, respecting its plants, can be a way to improve management in sustainable terms (DANTAS et al, 2019;OLIVEIRA et al, 2020).…”
