Abstract: The objective of this study was to compare and correlate the ecology of neonates and young individuals of Potamotrygon wallacei, Potamotrygon motoro and Paratrygon aiereba with regard to their hematological profile and the physicochemical parameters of the water that they inhabit. Principal component analysis (PCA) on the complete blood count revealed total variation of 72.92%, thus demonstrating a differentiation system for oxygen demand. On the other hand, P. motoro was considered to be an intermediate speci… Show more

“…Although some females showed presence of eosinophils, cells related with parasite and antigen control (Semeniuk et al, 2009;Smith et al, 2014), we did not find other evidence of parasite infection such as nuclei distribution of erythrocytes due to parasitic gametocytes (Oliveira et al, 2016a), poor body condition, low values of MCH and MCHC, or significant correlations among this parameters, which allows us to indicate that parasites could not be the best explanation for our results. Additionally, although we did not conduct any hemoparasitic assessment in our animals, no ectoparasites were found in any animal (based on a recurrent environmental and physical monitoring of the animals in their artificial environment).…”

“…Additionally, although we did not conduct any hemoparasitic assessment in our animals, no ectoparasites were found in any animal (based on a recurrent environmental and physical monitoring of the animals in their artificial environment). However, we highlight the importance of periodic microbiological assessments (endo, exo and hemo parasites) in artificial environments in order to control parasite loads and prevent health issues previously reported in freshwater stingrays (Ross, 2004;Lacerda et al, 2009;Oliveira et al, 2016a).…”

“…The physiological parameters in fish are widely used to establish the state of health of these vertebrates (Castro et al, 2021;Nascimento et al, 2020a;Oliveira et al, 2017;Oliveira et al, 2016;Oliveira et al, 2015). Considering that knowledge of the state of health of a species is very important for fish farming, and in order to improve knowledge regarding supplementary feeding using regional ingredients, the aim of the present study was to explain issues regarding use of wild rice for feeding farmed tambaqui.…”
