Economic impacts and nutritional outcomes of the 2017 floods in Bangladeshi Shodagor fishing families

Abstract: Objectives As climate change continues to increase the frequency and severity of flooding in Bangladesh and globally, it becomes increasingly critical to understand the pathways through which flooding influences health outcomes, particularly in lower‐income and subsistence‐based communities. “…This supports the growth theory for the panel of nations that produce fisheries. This result confirms the critical finding of McKinley ( 2023), Nunes andMasagounder (2023), andStarkweather et al (2023), who discovered a favorable and inelastic influence of economic expansion on the development of the fisheries sector. The EU region's fisheries sector may achieve sustained growth by creating the right circumstances for an economically viable and competitive market (Magazzino, 2016a).…”

“…Second, Starkweather and colleagues (Starkweather et al, 2023) examine the economic and nutritional effects of flooding using longitudinal data among a Shodagor fishing community in relation to an extreme 2017 flooding event in Bangladesh. They demonstrate that rice expenditures and fishing productivity were affected by the flood and index this to anthropometric data.…”
