Economic analysis of rice and common bean production in succession to green manure crops and mecahnical soil decompression in Brazilian Savannah

Abstract: The previous cultivation of green manures and mechanical soil decompression are options to minimize compaction of the topsoil in no-tilage system (NTS) set in different production systems in the Brazilian Savannah. In addition, it is essential to relate these agricultural practices with the economic benefits generated through the production cycles. The objective of this study was to evaluate economically the effect of sporadic mechanical decompression of the soil and previous cultivation of green manure in the… Show more

“…The attributes regarding plant height and size were consistently high in the technical data of each genetic material (COODETEC, 2017). However, regions with a high incidence of wind blow can damage the cultivation of CD1104, as taller wheat plants are more prone to lodging which may lead to more losses in the harvest (Nascimento et al, 2016).…”

“…The NTS treatments consisted of two conditions of the soil surface: under no-tillage with and without mechanical chiseling -combined with four cover crops adapted to the Cerrado conditions (Santos et al, 2012;Nascimento et al, 2016). In 2012, after 15 years of no-tillage, treatments were implemented to study the effects on soil quality, with mechanical chiseling of the area, sowing of cover crops and upland rice.…”

“…For the calculation of the income, the value of sales of standing wood was considered to be R$ 55.0 m -3 . The current values of the costs were deflated according to the General Price Index -internally available at the Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV, 2017) as suggested by Nascimento et al (2016).…”
