Economic Analysis of a Photovoltaic System: A Resource for Residential Households

Abstract: New installed annual solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity was equal to 76.1 GW in 2016 (+49%), reaching the total of 305 GW around the world. PV sources are able to achieve a greater energy independence, to tackle the climate change and to promote economic opportunities. This work proposes an economic analysis based on well-known indicators: Net Present Value (NPV), Discounted Payback Time (DPBT) and Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE). Several case studies are evaluated for residential households. They are based… Show more

“…It is clear that the sustainability assessment of products should include multidisciplinary information incorporating different perspectives on economic, environmental, and social challenges (Cucchiella, D'Adamo, & Gastaldi, 2017). Particular attention should be paid to the social dimension, in order to ensure the enhancement of social capital and the collective capacity to respond positively to sustainability challenges (Lelea, Roba, Christinck, & Kaufmann, 2014).…”

“…Rooftop solar PV, which directly converts sunlight into electricity, has good prospects for solving energy and environmental problems in the future, especially in China [4] ( Figures 1 and 2). In order to promote the development of photovoltaics, many scholars have done lots of related studies on solar urban plans, energy production simulation, energy efficiency, storage solution and economic benefit [3,[5][6][7][8]. However, PV potential map is the precondition and foundation of large-scale development of PV.…”

“…Related to the grid-connected system, for instance, in 2014, the total installed PV modules in the main countries reached the capacity of 177 GW [9]. PV systems are able to accomplish oil energy independence and to encourage new economic and job opportunities [10]. For instance, the photovoltaic industry in the global market has achieved continuous growth since 2016 [11].…”
