Early detection of Alzheimer's based on intrinsic measurements

Abstract

Hippocampus and raphe nuclei are complex circuits that consist of distinct anatomical regions. The abnormalities due to Alzheimer's disease (AD) are seen within the subfields of hippocampus and structures of raphe nuclei at the earlier stages of AD to different degrees. The abnormalities follow a particular pattern and can be classified into six stages of AD with a little variation among individuals. Segmenting the subfields and structures, and studying intrinsic properties among these structures can lead to novel and potentially more accurate ways for an early detection of AD, which has been challenging.
