Dynamics of the nanocrystal structure and composition in growth solutions monitored byin situlab-scale X-ray diffraction

Abstract: Nanocrystal growth dynamics are investigated by a novel approach: real-time observation of nanocrystals in growth solutions using lab-scale in situ X-ray diffraction. The method reveals the evolution of crystal phase, size, shape, and composition.

“…To investigate this effect, we prepared small Sb 0 nanospheres (NS; with diameters ca. 15 nm, Figure S7b) and monitored the alloy formation process with in situ XRD, by mixing Sb 0 NSs with Ni(Ac) 2 in TOP using a procedure recently published by our group . After the reactants are mixed, the mixture is heated under a He(g) atmosphere inside a diffractometer oven chamber.…”

“…The experimental setup follows the procedure published by our group . The reaction mixture was prepared by mixing 150 μL of TOP with 150 mg of Ni(Ac) 2 and 1.0 mL of Sb 0 NS stock solution (after hexane evaporation) for 60 min under N 2 atmosphere.…”

“…This method was proven useful for monitoring the dynamic structural changes of nanocrystals. 31 In this work, we have used an ensemble of in situ temperature-resolved techniques, including XRD, simultaneous thermal analysis [thermogravimetry (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)], and thermo-gravimetric infrared spectroscopy (TG-IR) to study the thermal behaviour of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) capped π-SnS nanoparticles.…”
