Dynamic pain after laser‐assisted‐Uvulo‐palatoplasty (LAUP) can instantaneously be mitigated by topical regimens

Abstract: Dynamic pain after LAUP could immediately be mitigated by local treatments upon sweet spots using topical regimens. The large-scale relief of dynamic pain in contrast to the small area of sweet spots implies a congregation of free nerve endings there. Our finding invites further studies to correlate the neuroanatomy of the soft palate and dynamic pain caused by LAUP.

“…Regions of “sweet spots” could always be easily identified just lateral to the junction of the medial and lateral halves of the surgically reconstructed soft palate (ie, the superior-lateral corner of the surgical wounds) with a length of five to eight millimeters and a bilateral symmetrical distribution (Figure 1). 6 The “sweet spot” area generally occupied one-fourth to one-third of the surgical wounds.…”

“…Local treatment (Figure 2) : 6 Local treatment with triamcinolone was applied to the regions of “sweet spots” within the surgical wounds on the first day postoperatively. “Sweet spots” were easily located over superior-lateral corners of the surgical wounds with a bilateral symmetrical distribution.…”
