Dynamic Modeling and Control Strategy Optimization for a Hybrid Electric Tracked Vehicle

Abstract: A new hybrid electric tracked bulldozer composed of an engine generator, two driving motors, and an ultracapacitor is put forward, which can provide high efficiencies and less fuel consumption comparing with traditional ones. This paper first presents the terramechanics of this hybrid electric tracked bulldozer. The driving dynamics for this tracked bulldozer is then analyzed. After that, based on analyzing the working characteristics of the engine, generator, and driving motors, the power train system model a… Show more

“…The physical constraints of state and control variables are denoted by the following inequalities to guarantee smooth/safe operation of the key components, including the engine, motor, and ultracapacitor: (21) Furthermore, the equality constraints are used such that the HETB can satisfy the load and speed requirements at all times.…”

“…The described methods make it possible to implement the process of the turning control with the aid of a steering wheel, in contrast to the old vehicles, in which this was done by levers. Accordingly, it is possible to find a large number of publications in the scientific literature, devoted to the improvement of hydrovolumetric transmissions and the turning mechanisms (TM) [4][5][6]; to the improvement of systems of the turning control and motion as a whole [7,11,13,14]; to the improvement of electrical and hybrid drive for the tracked vehicles [9][10][11][12][13]. Even the topic of the deceleration energy recovery for the hydrovolumetric-mechanical transmission is examined [8].…”

“…With the increasing emphasis on environmental protection, automobile technology tends to develop in the direction of hybridization and electrification. Dual-motor electric drive tracked vehicles (DDTVs) have drawn much attention in the research of tracked vehicles due to their high transmission efficiency, low fuel consumption, silent driving performance, and easy maintenance [1][2][3][4][5][6]. What is more, the introduction of two motors with fast dynamic response makes it feasible to control the rotational speed and torque of drive wheels accurately, rapidly, and independently.…”
