Durch Zecken übertragbare Krankheitserreger in Mitteleuropa

Abstract: Schildzecken sind deshalb sehr geeignete Überträger von Krankheitserregern, weil sie das Überleben aufgenommener Mikroorganismen in ihrem von Verdauungsenzymen freien Darm begünstigen. Borrelien zum Beispiel bleiben dort bis zur nächsten Blutmahlzeit der Zecke, gelangen dann erst nach Expression bestimmter Oberflächenproteine über die Hämolymphe in die Speicheldrüsen der Zecke und in den aktuellen Blutwirt.
