The Drosophilid family comprises over 4000 species, with several species posing potential threats to agriculture, as identified by the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organisation (EPPO). Among these species, Drosophila suzukii, Zaprionus tuberculatus and Z. indianus have received attention due to their geographic expansion and potential risks to crops. This research aims to consolidate global data on Z. tuberculatus hosts, with a specific focus on this species' presence in Brazil's Federal District, its first reported location in the Americas. Reviewing existing literature and conducting fieldwork, we identified 61 plant species from 25 botanical families as potential hosts for Z. tuberculatus worldwide, from which 23 species are new hosts. It was noted that Z. tuberculatus had a high density on certain fruits, raising concerns about its potential as a pest. The presence of Z. tuberculatus alongside other pest species, such as Z. indianus and Drosophila suzukii, highlights the complexity of invasive species' interactions and their ecological impacts. These findings emphasize the need for standardized methodologies to evaluate invasive drosophilids' ecological and economic implications, enabling informed management strategies to mitigate their adverse effects on agriculture and ecosystems.

Spotted Wing Drosophila (Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura, 1931)) population fluctuations and distribution was monitored in 2021 and 2022 years in five major agricultural regions of Georgia (Guria, Samegrelo, Imereti, Kartli and Kakheti) and in four susceptible crop orchards (blueberry, strawberry, cherry, wine grapes) with the aim to study population size and evaluate the pest status. Field monitoring was provided on a weekly basis in four locations of each studied regions from May to November in 2021 and 2022 years using PHEROCON® SWD traps with PHEROCON® SWD PEEL-PAK™ Broad Spectrum Lures. The investigation indicates on the significant growth of population from 2021 to 2022 in most of the studied locations. Pest population was significantly larger in autumn compared to spring and summer, supposedly influenced by ripening of alternative crops such as blackberry and elderberry. Fruit evaluation reveals an increased number of D. suzukii larva in fruit in 2022 season compared to 2021. The Sex ratio between the male and female individuals is almost equal and has remained consistent through two years study period and across regions. We propose D. suzukii enters the country from southwestern part and extends its distribution range towards the east. Growing population size of D. suzukii might result in pest outbreak followed by economic losses.

Summary The spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura, 1931), population fluctuations and distribution were monitored in four susceptible crops (blueberry, strawberry, cherry, wine grapes) and five major agricultural regions of Georgia (Guria, Samegrelo, Imereti, Kartli and Kakheti) during the years 2021 and 2022 with the aim to study the population size and evaluate the pest status. Population monitoring was conducted in four locations of each studied region on a weekly basis from May to November using PHEROCON® SWD traps with PHEROCON® SWD PEEL-PAK™ Broad Spectrum Lures. The investigation indicated significant growth of population from 2021 to 2022 in most of the studied locations. Population increase was detected in all crop orchards except cherries. Τhe absence of alternative host plants at crop proximity was of critical importance to save the crop from pest invasion. The crop plant species did not have a significant impact on D. suzukii. Pest population was significantly larger in summer and autumn compared to spring, possibly influenced by the ripening of alternative crops such as blackberry and elderberry. The sex ratio between male and female individuals was almost 1:1 and remained consistent through the two-year study period and across regions. We consider that D. suzukii entered the country from the southwestern part and extended its distribution range towards the east. No strategies for D. suzukii control have been elaborated in Georgia so far. Sprays of effective pesticides based on pest monitoring as well as sanitation measures involving removal of alternative host plants and any crop residues from the field are necessary to avoid pest outbreak.
