Abstract: Abstract A model to predict the temperature‐induced added loss in dual‐coated optical fibers is presented. Longitudinal and lateral temperature‐induced forces, originating from fiber irregularities and from the mismatch among the expansion coefficients of the glass fiber and of the coatings, are consistently included in the model.
