Effects of twice daily application of 2% dorzolamide on intraocular pressure in normal cats

“…This was effective in a human study that reported a 9-21% decrease in IOP when given twice daily, but when dosed three times a day, documented a 14-24% reduction in IOP. 24 This correlates with results of human pharmacokinetic studies where peak concentration (1000 ng/mL) of dorzolamide is achieved in the aqueous in 2 hours and troughed by 12 h (200 ng/mL). 25,26 The frequent application of topical anesthesia over the treatment period could have resulted in disruption of the normal tear film and changes in the epithelium resulting in increased access to the cornea and absorption of dorzolamide compared to a clinical setting.…”
