Dopamine transporter immunohistochemistry in median eminence, amygdala, and other areas of the rat brain

Abstract: In an extension of our previous work, an antibody directed against a peptide from the N‐terminal region of DAT was used to localize specific dopamine transporter immunoreactivity (DAT‐IR) in several regions of rat brain. Apparent axons and varicosities were found in the zona incerta, external layer of the median eminence, various nuclei of the amygdala, the cortex‐amygdala transition zone, and in periglomerular regions in the olfactory bulb. Apparent stained neuronal perikarya and dendrites were observed in th… Show more

“…The vast majority of the olfactory TH-ir cells co-expressed DDC and VMAT2 and none of the analyzed TH-ir cells expressed DAT, either in control animals or MPTP-monkeys (Table I). However, some cells of OB expressed DAT but not TH which is consistent with previous reports showing DAT expression in the rat OB (Revay et al, 1996) (Fig. 3).…”

“…1A and 2) immunoreactivity were comparable in ERβ −/− and ERβ +/+ mice, similar for the characteristics and distribution of DAT (Figs. 1B and 3), and they were consistent with previous results in the rodent amygdala 37,[68][69][70] . For example, as in the mouse and rat, the immunoreactivity of TH (Fig.…”

“…The OT has robust DAT immunoreactivity, which is consistent with its midbrain DA fiber innervation (Ciliax et al, 1995;Freed et al, 1995;Revay, Vaughan, Grant, & Kuhar, 1996;Vastenhouw et al, 2007;Vaughan, Brown, McCoy, & Kuhar, 1996).…”
