Does drug dispensing improve the health outcomes of patients attending community pharmacies? A systematic review

Abstract: Background Drug dispensing is a clinical pharmacy service that promotes access to medicines and their rational use. However, there is a lack of evidence for the impact of drug dispensing on patients’ health outcomes. Thus, the purpose of this study was to assess the influence of drug dispensing on the clinical, humanistic, and economic outcomes of patients attending community pharmacies. “…Taking healthcare out of the hospital or clinic using community-based mobile clinics specialized in HIV services is known to increase access to healthcare and improve health outcomes of patients ( 12 , 58 61 ). Studies have shown that it is feasible to use pharmacies to dispense ART and other chronic medication ( 62 – 64 ), with a study in Nigeria finding a higher ART continuity rate and viral load suppression in people who utilized pharmacies for refills compared to healthcare facilities ( 62 ). There has also been a proposal in South Africa for Pharmacy Initiated ART (PIMART), which will also include PrEP initiations ( 65 ).…”

“…Tumor-specific cell surface overexpressed antigens with nanoparticle-formulated antibody conjugation have recently been shown to target folate receptor overexpressing prostate, breast, and lung cancer cells in vitro ( 141 ). Moreover, the application of nanoparticle-conjugated epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and HER2 receptors on different cancers leading to increased efficacy of different cancer drugs have recently been demonstrated ( 142 , 143 ). Besides these, the cluster of differentiation (CD), estrogen, integrin, and other growth factor receptor-based targeting using different nanoparticles have successfully been shown to enhance the efficacy of current cancer drugs in vitro and in vivo mouse models ( 144 146 ).…”
