“…Exudative epidermitis corresponded to 9.7% of the diagnoses in this study, similar to that observed by other authors, with 5.4% (Brum et al 2013) and 6.25% (Coelho et al 2017). This disease occurs worldwide, and the main etiological agent involved is Staphylococcus hyicus (Frana & Hau 2019), although some studies are related to a strain VA654 of Staphylococcus chromogenes (Andresen et al 2005).…”

“…In this retrospective study, CNS diseases accounted for 3.19% of the diagnoses in pigs. These data are similar to those of a study conducted in the south of Rio Grande do Sul with swines of subsistence activity (Coelho et al 2017). The diseases of the CNS in pigs are common in farms and exert high economic losses.…”

“…Brain abscesses represented 1.3% of the lesions in this study. Abscesses in the CNS seem to be an uncommon disease, and not reported in other similar studies (Brum et al 2013a, Coelho et al 2017, Konradt et al 2020). However, this disease has been reported in the isolated cases (Headley et al 2012).…”

“…In the Laboratory of Pathology of the IFC, Campus Concórdia, between 2013 to 2017, 10 cases of rickets in pigs were described, in a total of 367 diagnoses (2.7%) [5]. In Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, the pathology laboratory of the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel) described that the deficiency diseases in pigs had an incidence of 2% (507 cases) between 1978 and 2015 [6]. In Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, the pathology laboratory of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) described that metabolic and nutritional diseases accounted for 11.5% of the laboratorial casuistry (564 cases) from 1964 to 2011 [3].…”
