Abstract: In this paper, we consider load control in a multiple residence setup where energy consumption scheduling (ECS) devices in smart meters are employed for Demand-side management (DSM). Several residential end-users share the same energy source and each residential user has non adjustable loads, adjustable loads and a storage device. The ECS devices interact automatically by running an iterative distributed algorithm to find the optimal energy consumption schedule for each end-user, in order to reduce the total e… Show more

“…The daily usage of adjustable and non‐adjustable devices is set to be similar to those in [8, 9]. The average daily consumption of each user ranges from 12 to 16 kWh, and for users with storage devices the capacity of each user is between 2 and 5 kWh.…”

“…Here bnt < 0 represents that the battery is discharging while bnt > 0 represents that the battery is charging. The charge/discharge variables and the accumulated energy in the battery at time slot t are given by the equation [9]pnt = pn t 1 + bnt , 1emt = 1 , thinmathspace , thinmathspaceT The variable bnt is constrained by the maximum charge and discharge as bn dis < bnt < bn ch, also we assume that the batteries have limited capacity, thus the energy supplied by the battery is no more than the current consumed energy, that is, bnt + k x n , thinmathspacek t + p n , thinmathspace0 t 0. Every single battery has an efficiency η n ∈ (0, 1), implying that if pn t 1 is accumulated at the end of the time slot t − 1, then the discharge at time slot t is constrained by bnt ηn pn t 1.…”
