Disposable Polymeric Nanostructured Plasmonic Biosensors for Cell Culture Adhesion Monitoring

Abstract: Over the last years, optical biosensors based on plasmonic nanomaterials have gained great scientific interest due to their unquestionable advantages compared to other biosensing technologies. They can achieve sensitive, direct, and label-free analysis with exceptional potential for multiplexing and miniaturization. Recently, it has been demonstrated the potential of using optical discs as high throughput nanotemplates for the development of plasmonic biosensors in a cost-effective way. This work is a pilot st… Show more

“…The double-sided tape was laser cut and consisted of a single chann It was also used to bond the PMMA top layer to the plasmonic biosensor. This study s cifically focused on human retinal pigmented cells and was used to monitor cell adhesi It shows great promise for easily integrated biosensors for future cell monitoring and se ing [118]. Bio-Rad Laboratories have a line of double-sided tape for sealing PCR well plates t can also be applied to microfluidic devices.…”

“…Biosensors have high miniaturization and integration potential for developing lab‐on‐a‐chip devices. [ 61 ] Consequently, they are highly suitable to be integrated for real‐time monitoring in 2D cell culture [ 62 ] and OOC devices. [ 63 ] A biosensor usually uses antibodies, aptamers, or enzymes as bioreceptors/biorecognition elements.…”

“…They allow direct and label-free detection of analytes with realtime kinetic information from the molecular interaction under analysis without amplification or pretreatment of the sample (Lopez et al, 2017). These advantageous features have widely widespread the novel applications of plasmonic biosensors, including new research fields from cell culture and bioprocess monitoring (Vila et al, 2021) to theranostics (Hassan et al, 2021).…”
