Direct-on-line-start permanent-magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance motors with ferrite magnets for driving constant loads

Abstract: For driving constant loads in industry, the use of direct-on-line-start permanent-magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance motors with ferrite magnets (DOL-Start-PMa-SynRM) is proposed. The bibliographic search demonstrated that this new motor has greater efficiency than one similar induction motor (IM). It was evidenced that the main element that is required for direct starting is to insert a squirrel cage into the rotor of a PMa-SynRM, which does not produce negative operational effects in a steady state. An e… Show more

“…The three-phase induction motor is the electromechanical converter of the electric drive of the great majority of mechanisms or mechanical loads and the principal electrical energy consumption of industrial installations [1,2]. This means that the knowledge of the mathematical models that allow the prediction of the behavior of these motors on the electric grid as well as on the mechanical system of which is its driver has great importance.…”

“…The research on the field of the line-start motors is not limited to the synchronous motors with permanent magnets. The capabilities of hysteresis and reluctance motors for direct line starting are investigated as well [17], [18]. Faults that can occur during operation of line-start synchronous permanent magnet motors are subject to the mathematical modelling, simulation and analysis [19]- [21].…”
