“…Over the last decade, the application field of the DART-MS technique has seen extraordinary expansion. The technique has gained popularity among researchers and has been considered suitable for the following: olive oil authenticity assessment [36], pesticide monitoring on fruits [37] and vegetables [38], metabolite fingerprinting [39], plant seed characterization [40], clinical [35], pharmaceutical [41], forensic [42] and environmental [43] analyses, and for the detection of adulteration in foods such as milk [44] and honey [45].…”

“…The pharmaceutical products in the form of tablet are generally analyzed using this strategy, and various active pharmaceutical ingredients in different pharmaceutical tablets [39,56,[65][66][67][68] as well as impurity D in atorvastatin tablet [68] were successfully analyzed and investigated. In addition, several raw herbal materials including Atropa acuminate [69], Piper betle Linn [70], Ocimum basilicum, Mentha spicata, and Coriandrum sativum [71], Aconitum plants [72], Datura seeds [73], and Rauwolfia species [74] were also analyzed by DART-MS via such a strategy.…”

“…TLC-DART-MS was successfully applied for analysis of pharmaceutical drugs [68,92], forensic drugs [92], and herbal medicines of Angelica gigas, Evodia rutaecarpa, and Schisandra chinensis [93]. Quantitative analysis of major dibenzocyclooctane lignans in Schisandra chinensis by online TLC-DART-MS were also done by Kim et al [94].…”

“…[1] Methods for forming ions under ambient conditions can be classified into three primary groups that are based on liquid solution sprays, [2,3] laser desorption from surfaces, [4][5][6] and plasma ionization. [7] Such ionization methods can be used to analyse samples in the open atmosphere without the need for ion source enclosure, which facilitates high-throughput screening applications, including in the analysis of pharmaceutical tablets, [8] forensic samples, [9][10][11] explosives, [12,13] narcotics, [14] chemical warfare agents, [15][16][17] and persistent organic pollutants, [18][19][20] and bacterial profiling. [21] Plasma-based ionization methods have the advantages that (i) solvents, fluid pumps, and lasers are not required, and (ii) such ion sources tend to be significantly less susceptible to ion suppression, in which the sample matrix can detrimentally affect analyte ionization efficiency, than spray-and laser-based ion sources.…”
