Diffractive performance of square Fresnel zone plates

Abstract: We analyze the optical behavior of Square Fresnel Zones Plates. A theoretical analysis and numerical simulations based on the Rayleigh-Sommerfeld approach have been developed analyzing properties such as the depth of focus and the intensity of the focus in terms of the number of zones. In addition, an experimental verification has been performed using a Spatial Light Modulator to implement the designed Square Fresnel Zones Plates.

“…The dimensions of the zones are based on the Fresnel zone concept [1]. FZPs have been analyzed from several points of view and performances, [2,3,4,5,6]. It appears as a fundamental part in applications such as spectroscopy, nanolithography, neareld and far-eld optical microscopy, or optical antennas, [7,8,9,10,11,12], involving also X-rays [13,14] and extreme-ultraviolet radiation.…”

“…Based on it, a variety of zone plates in different geometries such as fractal [7], square [8], polygonal [9], elliptical [10], cross-like [11], spiral zone plate A. Sabatyan [12], and petal-like zone plate [13] have been introduced in order to provide a simple and easy way to implement a zone plate in many applications that are very hard or even impossible to reach via refractive optics.…”
