Abstract:Mucin‐type O‐glycosylation is an essential post‐translational modification that is required for secretion, extracellular matrix composition and organ growth. O‐glycosylation is initiated by a large family of enzymes (GalNAcTs in mammals and PGANTs in Drosophila) that catalyze the addition of the sugar N‐acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc), onto the hydroxyl groups of serines or threonines in protein substrates. These enzymes have distinct domains, including the catalytic domain and the C‐terminal ricin‐like lectin do… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
