Abstract:Preeclampsia (PE) is a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy which affects ~5–7% of all pregnancies in the United States. Hallmarked by new‐onset hypertension and organ damage, it is a leading cause of premature birth and maternal/fetal perinatal morbidity. While the cause of PE remains elusive, placental dysfunction due to chronic ischemia is believed to be a central regulator of the disorder.
