Abstract: Background: Cardiomyocytes have small potential for renovation and proliferation in vivo. Consequently, the heart muscle has limited capacity of self-renewal. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) therapy, as well as MSC differentiated into cardiomyocytes, has been used in the attempt to minimize the effects of ischemic-hypoxic lesions and those affecting the electrical conduction system of the heart.

“…Stem cells can specifically differentiate into various cell types under different treatment conditions. For example, MSCs treated with 5-azacytidine can differentiate into cardiomyocyte-like cells (19). Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) induced by vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) can differentiate into vascular endothelial cells (20).…”

“…Under certain conditions, MSCs are able to differentiate into various tissue cell types, including myocardial cells, endothelial cells and insulin-secreting cells (35). Several studies have demonstrated that MSCs are involved in the pathogenesis of AP, revealing in their investigations that transplanted MSCs have the capacity to relieve the severity and improve the prognosis of SAP (68).…”
