Diclofenac fast-dissolving film: suppression of bitterness by a taste-sensing system

Abstract: The electronic tongue was allowed to discriminate the effect of the TMA also in the presence of other hydrosoluble constituents of the film. Therefore, because of its simplicity and rapidity, this technique could assist or even replace the sensory evaluation in the development of fast-dissolving films.

“…The use of disks, weights or paper clips may underestimate the disintegration time because of additional forces exerted on the ODF during the test. Researchers have also applied the standard disintegration test, without modifications, to ODFs . The pharmacopoeia disintegration test for tablets and capsules cannot be directly adapted to ODFs because of challenges in end‐point determination.…”

“…Taste sensing systems, considered as a newly developed technology, has aroused researchers' attention and have begun to be used in the beverage area. For instance, green tea taste and pharmaceutical formulations have been evaluated using taste sensing systems . Use of taste sensing systems in herb analysis has also aroused attention.…”

“…Film dosage forms (FDs) are also anticipated to be useful in oral care [79]. The active compound present in FDs is spread in the oral cavity as the form disintegrates on contact with saliva, and the disintegration profile of FDs can be varied by modifying the film base [10].…”
