“…Previous research has shown that categorical verbal fluency and delayed story recall tasks may be useful tools for the screening of dementia in population-based studies [32,46]. However, the accuracy of delayed story recall (AUC = 0.98; Se = 0.97%, Sp = 0.99%) and verbal fluency (AUC = 0.91, Se = 95%, Sp = 72%) tasks for detecting dementia seem superior in clinical studies [47,48], compared to the discrimination values obtained in our sample.…”

“…There is no Brazilian or international antecedent of the use of LCT for the evaluation of PD. Knowing that the MoCA is not appropriate for evaluation of subjects with low schooling since it requires at least 4 years of formal study, and that the MMSE considers changes in the cutoff point according to schooling, Zunzunegui et al (14) made the use of LCT useful for this study, since the conclusion of this instrument does not depend on the ability to write, calculate, draw or carry out abstract thinking, favoring adequate cognitive screening in low education populations, in counterpoint of MMSE and MoCA instruments. Thus, it is suggested that the LCT is used to investigate cognitive dysfunction of patients with PD, especially low level of education.…”

“…Second, we used a relatively restricted neuropsychological test battery that did not sample all cognitive domains. However, our battery was designed to meet the constraints of an epidemiological study with almost 4,000 elderly subjects where the level of education is usually low [31]. In this sense, the educational factor may partially explain the low performance of our sample in the Trail Making Test-A compared to other populations.…”
