“…Recently, production of refractories was also reported (Klippel, 2011). Publications on the use of this processing method for advanced structural ceramics are relatively rare, although the feasibility of the process for nanoscale SiC and neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet has been demonstrated (Kopylov, 2009;Matsunaga, 2010).…”

“…Despite some works report that doping by sulfate ions improves structural and morphological characteristics of YAG nanopowders [2,5,12,13], the role of sulfate ions in the production of highly sinterable YAG nanopowders is not clear. The purpose of this work is to study the influence of sulfate ions on the morphology, size, agglomeration degree and sintering peculiarities of carbonate-derived YAG nanopowders.…”

“…Nanopowders provide more homogenous particle packing during molding and densify into transparent bodies without applying a pressure at lower temperatures compared to conventional micron-sized powders. To produce highly transparent ceramics which optical and laser characteristics are comparable with corresponding single crystals the initial nanopowders should meet following requirements: low agglomeration degree, spherical shape, ultrafine particle size (near 100 nm) and narrow size distribution [1,2]. Nowadays relatively simple wet chemical methods are widely used to synthesize oxide nanopowders of multication compounds due to excellent mixing of starting materials and homogeneity of final product at the molecular level.…”

“…Powder shaping technology was also important for obtaining highly transparent ceramics. Three common methods, dry pressing [1,13,17], slip casting [21][22][23][24] and tape casting [25][26][27][28], were reported to prepare YAGbased ceramic green bodies previously. Compared to dry pressing, colloidal forming methods, including slip casting, tape casting and gel casting, can better control particle-particle interactions and increase the homogeneity of particle packing.…”
