Development of Instruments to Measure Mathematical Anxiety of Elementary School Students

Abstract: To generate high-quality research, a reliable instrument is required. This study aims to develop an instrument that can measure mathematical dimensions of elementary school students appropriately, for use in mathematics learning on spatial geometry. Each statement item in Mathematical Anxiety Instrument was developed based on 3 learning aspects, namely Attitudinal, Cognitive, Somatic. This study uses Research and Development (R&D) method with a quasi-experimental design on geometry topic. The sample is 100 six… Show more

“…Research says a good instrument test is marked by two conditions: validity and reliability (Putri, Wahyudy, Yuliyanto, & Nuraeni, 2020;Setiadi, Ursula, Rismawati & Setini, 2020). Furthermore, a good test instrument can be identified by analyzing the validity, reliability, discrimination index, and difficulty level of using Anates V4 (Sari & Mahendra, 2017).…”

“…Outwardly indicating validity, the results of an experiment are insignificant, and the outcomes based on those decisions could be mortifying (Elliott, McKevitt, & Kettler, 2002). A reliable tool provides a constant characteristic measure notwithstanding inconstancies in its background (Putri, Wahyudy, Yuliyanto, & Nuraeni, 2020). The difficulty level is an opportunity to answer the question on the level of certain capabilities that are usually (Patriasih, 2017).…”

“…Supporting the statement, validity is defined as the extent to which the assessment accurately measures what it is intended to measure (Ramaligela, 2021). Furthermore, a reliable instrument provides a consistent characteristic measure despite fluctuations in its background (Putri, Wahyudy, Yuliyanto, & Nuraeni, 2020). Meanwhile, the difficulty level shows the balance between easy and difficult items, and there are more easy questions between the two or show a normal curve (Lu, 2015;Raharjo, Ramli, & Rinanto, 2019).…”
