Abstract: This article is a survey of research on the childhood acquisition of knowledge about the mind, especially work done during the past two decades under the heading of theory-of-mind development. It begins with a history of research in this area. This is followed by a brief summary of principal theories and findings. The article concludes with some guesses about future research in this exciting area of cognitive development.
